When you say that your ethnicity is American, there is no American ethnicity. You had to throw away your ethnicity to become American, that is what it means.
The American ethnicity is a transplanted "Western Civilization" ethnicity. This is the culture. It's Greek culture, as evolved into Roman culture, as tempered by Medieval Germanic. Our legal system descends from the British Common Law. This is who we are.
Anybody who says "You can't talk about European American White culture, you have to take a specific European ethnicity, you have to be Irish or Italian or whatever", can be replied to with "Well, you cannot then have a Black culture, you have to identify with a specific tribe, then".
But don't bother saying that in front of the professor.
THE CLASS IS A TRAP, used to discover and expose non-liberals, so they can be excluded from whatever lib-dominated profession the class is a prerequisite for. Just say what is expected, pass the course, and move on.

They’re also the ones who are eating up most of the welfare, with the result that majority whites are putting off having the kids they want badly and the minorities are getting the fun free ride they think they are entitled to.
Whites do want families and kids, it’s just they’re too responsible the majority of the time to have them the way the minorities do, while on welfare and out of wedlock.
Actually in this transcript the ethnics are complaining that the white dude just sees himself a “human being” and doesn’t worry that he is white. They tell him that “means something”.
You see they are the racists and he is minding his own business as a person but they are so brainwashed they perceive that to be a problem he is creating.
If I were in your position; I would organize a movement to remove the “shackles”, “chains”, and “restraints” that anchor these poor unfortunate people of color and codemn them to be imprisoned in such a rascist and cruel nation. Surely, if they were finally and mercifully free of “white oppression”, then they would joyously rise up and depart for places and countries where they could realize their full potential without being imprisoned where such opportunities are non-existant as they are in America.
Of course, the above is extreme sarcasm. That is all one has left to explain the plight that people of color perceive themselves to endure in this country. Being a person of color is a state of mind that has reaped privileges, rights and lowered standards far above those enjoyed by white Americans. It hasn’t served them well, but they will continue to use their color to their advantage until The Golden Goose is dead.
In the topsy turvy world of the left, somehow whites are a problem because they are productive, and the plan for these other groups to take over as a racial majority is not recognized as the racist power grab it is.
To me, generalizations based on some external factor, or some imputed belief or behavior, are the very personification of bias and racism.
I do an in-class exercise in which I first ask my students whether they harbor any prejudice or negativity toward individuals or groups. Their answer in uniformly “No.” I then read a list to them and ask them to gauge their reactions to each item. Entries include conservatives, Republicans, Christians, and Rush Limbaugh. I don’t require them to report, or explain, their feelings—Just to honestly recognize them. It’s fun to watch the squirming when they realize they indeed are prejudiced.

I’d follow-through on that thought and discuss how you (and others) have overcome that feeling of being left out...as opposed to the despair of - say - the homogenous culture of the USSR or China.

It’s recognized, but nothing is done because of the very real possibility that blacks will march into our neighborhoods and murder our families in their very homes. THAT is what got Obama reelected and that is what will likely cause problems when according to the Constitution Obama is now required to leave office and not return.
This whole exercise is an effort to destroy the American spirit. You see, most Americans who immigrated here did so because they did not want to be defined by the society they left. Being American means not caring what the other guy thinks as long as you have your God-given rights to be yourself. We did not come here for acceptance, we came here for the liberty and independence to fulfill our God-given potential without anyone’s approval.
This has nothing to do with being “white”, it has to do with being American, and I do know a number of people “of color” who are fully American and who refuse to be subjugated to other peoples insecurities or disapproval.
They are trying to subdue us folks. The only answer is, “No, thank you. You are welcome to despise me if it makes you feel better about yourself.”
Blacks need to be deprogrammed in the manner that people rescued from cults are.

Which is the bulk of their cultural education as presented by the race-hustlers and the Dhimmicrats -in-charge.
Ultimately, the argument comes down to, “I can’t contribute anything worthwhile without the support of someone else.
They are taught to be nothing unless soemone else gives them what they think they want.

Urban culture has regressed to darkest Africa with a modern facade.

The “white guy” doesn’t see himself as ethnic which disturbs (upsets) the ethnic portion of respondents. Yet, the white guy is not disturbed (upset) when the other respondents self-identify as ethnic.
Ultimately, the white guy is asked to give reasons ^^not in response to his non-identification along ethnic lines^^ but, ^^why he isn’t upset (AKA, feels guilty) when others identify as ethnic^^.

It was actually tried, with free American blacks being sent to Liberia. Didn't work out well (Documentary: The Cannibal Warlords of Liberia, with interesting interview with General Butt Naked ).
