uring the two very long hours of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, I think I chuckled three times. Meanwhile, all around me were cracking up. They, obviously, were more in tune with the general audience responsible for (at the time of writing) the $100 million in box office receipts earned by this sequel to the equally dreadful Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004). Not that Im not used to being in the minority in my view of popular movies, but I cant help asking myself why so many people think this one, which is by the same creative team of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay that produced the original, is funny when I do not. I dont think it can be because I lack a sense of humor, or that it has atrophied with age, since I do laugh at quite a lot of things. Scott Foundas, the critic for Variety, likens the new Anchorman to Network as directed by Mel Brooks, and starring Gene Wilder, thus comparing it to some movies that I do find funny. Does he, then, think they are funny in the same way as Anchorman 2?

February 2012: Many conservatives may love films like Old School, Anchorman, Elf and Talladega Nights, but may not be happy to learn that the star of those films is strongly supporting the reelection of Barack Obama. Ferrell contributed political donations to Howard Dean during the 2004 campaign, and since 2011, has donated over $71,000 to Barack Obama and the DNC. AP reports that as the election approaches, Ferrell will up his support and organization for the President:
Soon to be followed by a major new release called “Ass”
and the exact same people will be yukking it up like crazy
The movie “Idiocracy” was not a comedy, it was a documentary that happened to be funny.
Saw it and it was funny all the way through...It is over the top and outrageous by design...It was not supposed to be a sophisticated comedy.Exactly! Thanks for the review on Anchorman II. Will Ferrell is probably our favorite comedian. We like a couple others as well, but just finished watching Anchorman for the 5th or 6th time, a couple of weeks ago, and watched Elf as a family (we've seen it multiple times as well) for Christmas. Our whole family likes Will Ferrell. He truly is "over the top" and "outrageous," and that's what makes him so funny (to us anyway).
“I thought the scene with the reporters fighting was funny, especially when the PBS guys showed up.”
100% agree

Critics weren't kind to Mel Brooks later films "Life Sucks" and "Dracula Dead and Loving It".
It's kind of how classic rock fans don't like the albums their "favorite" artists have recorded in the past 30 years, prefering instead the first works they were exposed to by these "names".
Can’t figure out how Will Farrell, Adam Sandler, or Ben Stiller can earn even a dime in the entertainment industry. Farrell is just plain juvenile and vulgar. I knew funnier people than Adam Sandler in the 7th grade. And Ben Stiller . . . my god, enough of him already.
Trebeck: "that's the pen is mightier than the sword, Mr. Connery."

And I like slapstick humor. Airplane is one of the funniest movies ever. But Anchorman ain't.
Senses of humor vary form person to person, but Will like so many Hollywood types ventured into politics. Its a career killer. You can’t put your brain into the fantasy mode knowing you are paying your own money to be insulted.publically.
Except Mel Brooks KNEW he was being that way
I think these people thought they were actually funny
I was expecting it to degenerate into fart jokes - I would not be surprised if it did- I turned it off after about 20 minutes
I enjoyed the first Anchorman. Will Ferrell was absolutely awful, but that was the point. Everyone back then thought that anchormen were gods. Their slips were just beginning to show. So, whether or not it was his intent, it really showed up the stupidity of the MSM and its anchormen.
Don’t know about the second movie. At this point, I don’t think too many people think that anchormen are gods. Not even the libs.
Will Farrel. Picking up the torch/baton passed from Adam Sandler who got it from Mike Meyers who got it from Eddie Murphy who got it from Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd.
They are SNL alumni who made the break to the big screen. They have some success at it here and there but the sheer quantity of the work is going to include a lot of mediocre crap.
Then there are those like Rob Schneider, Chris Farley, and David Spade, Al Franken, et al who never even had one brilliant film.
In the 1990s, it got so "He's a Republican" was enough to be a "punchline". It still happens on NPR's gameshows.
No wit. No truth. No biting satire. Just partisan propaganda disguised as "infotainment".
I thought the “I’m gonna punch you in the ovary” scene was funny too.

Just because I always wondered what the co-anchors were saying to each other while the closing credits were running. I wonder how close Anchorman was to getting it right?
I’d agree with the assessment of Ferrell and Black, Sandler not so much, its not a comedy, but I would suggest watching Spanglish.... Sandler has talent, though it may not always be at comedy.
Unfortunately they tried this thing again in Achorman 2 and the whole scene just doesn’t work at any level.
Like you, I can’t figure out why people think Adam Sandler is funny.
That’s what figured they’d do, just rehash a bunch of stuff from the first movie.
