I on occasion do engage in debates with Liberals on various sites. On my Facebook, I have both Conservative and Liberal friends and there are times when I feel the need to jump in.
I have used some techniques to counter the various things that Libs do in the debates and we have seen them all. They do not play fair.
One technique that I use in person and on the Internet is to take a timeout (when you can) and explain to them both Confirmation Bias and Cognitive Dissonance. After doing this, we get back into the conversation and I point out when they are using the CB or experiencing the CD. It can work effectively.
But what I have done recently has actually worked better than I thought. So lets say that you have a normal conversation on a Facebook (FB) page of a friend and it is about politics. Nice normal conversation then a Lib jumps in with typical Lib Talking Points and it is obvious that they came in for a fight. We ALL know how that goes .you say something, they say something, you say something back etc . It has a flow to it where you know that they are going to do and say certain things. So I started thinking if we already know that they are going to do these things, why not predict them right off the bat and put them on the defense trying to prove you wrong that they will not do them.
I see it as a Win/Win situation because you will either take them off of their game by not doing them or will prove you right by doing them. Others in the conversation (Liberal and Conservative) will see as you point them out and even point them out for you.
So what I am asking from the Freepers on here is to look at my Predictions List that I copy and paste on these debates and help me fine tune them. I am not looking at a large list of things, just a few main predictable things that they do.
Additionally, try using it yourself and see if it is effective and let me know.
I predict that you (Liberal in the discussion) will do one or more of the following:
Will not answer your questions
Will insist that I answer your questions
At some point feign moral outrage to try to get me on the defense
While feigning moral outrage you will make or have made statements that are offensive
Disrupt the conversation Bring up Bush or Fox News (they will call it Faux News thinking it is cute), Rush, Palin, Beck etc
..
Only site Liberal News sources and dismiss any Conservative News sources. This creates a Feedback Loop where only Liberals are credible sources of information
Tend to view people as Parts of Groups and not Individuals
They also resort to ad-hominem attacks, and change the subject frequently.
I go with Alinsky. A liberals biggest fear is being humiliated. I have humiliating a liberal down to an art form. And when the liberal whines about it, I humiliate him that he is a whiner.
Communists, who frequently masquerade as “liberals,” frequently redefine terms, both overtly and covertly, to skew discussions in their favor.
They will refuse to accept the wrong-doings of their politicians or try to avoid it by bringing up some example of a Republican doing the same thing.
Yep, when all else fails they will call you a racist, sexist, homophobe, or religious fanatic. Then you know you’ve won the argument.
I find that asking them a lot of questions works very well when debating.
You can set up your questions in a way that they will box themselves into a corner. I would also note that usually when they recognize this, they will lash out with the most vile and hateful speech they can muster.
You (or someone) should make this into a Bingo type graphic to post at the begining of the arguement so others can play Liberal Debate Bingo while watching.
Good stuff so far.....I can see fine tuning this.
This is assuming that they even acknowledge or answer your question though.
So that is one of my predictions
* You will not answer my question(s)
The asking them a lot of questions is a debate tactic, I am looking for the predictable things they do to put on a list.
You meant to say 'cite', yes?
Yes thanks...
This is one variation of The Delphi Technique.

better- hit them in the mouth
best- shoot them in the head
They cannot tell you what the other side of any political argument is without snark. Seriously, they don't know what the other side of the argument is.
I agree with you that Leftists are non logical when it comes to politics and won’t change. However, there are a lot of other people who think they don’t pay attention to politics, they too are on social network sites, and they are the ones to try to get to.
I see this as a way to get through to these low info, non political people. They will see first hand how a conservative responds and thinks, and what a lunatic the leftist is.
One example: I like to go to this decorating forum. Since it is a decorating forum, politics is pretty much off limits, but you could still tell by their reaction to “female” issues what side of the political spectrum they resided. During the R primary, someone started a thread about who should win the GOP ticket. These women were so busy insulting the wives of the candidates running and patting themselves on the back that they could be so open minded and have a nice discussion about the primaries.
I stayed on topic, and was polite, but I wrote that I would be supporting Newt since my gal Sarah wasn’t running.
I KNEW this would send these leftists into a tizzy, and boy it sure did. They were so nasty to me, Sarah, and FOX that the mods pulled the thread. This accomplished something significant. All of these types of sites have a lot of lurkers, and others who just don’t want to be treated badly. When you try to tell low info people of the lefts nastiness, they respond with “both sides do it” I want them to know and see these people for who they are, and maybe to realize they have been lied to for a long time.
