To: Ol' Dan Tucker

My daughter played soccer until high school. Then, like virtually every single other player on her team, she moved on to another sport. Most of them moved to basketball.

It’s not just a “girls” sport. It’s a young girls sport.

I think the reason that happens (one daughter went from soccer to basketball, the other from soccer to volleyball) is that the high school has a limited number of spots for the soccer team. And those get filled up by the serious club players, and not those from the rec level.

I like football and soccer. For me, both are boring to watch if I don’t have a home-town team to root for in a game. (Whereas my son will watch football and soccer regardless of who is playing.)
