Do only males do this? My 3 boys, do, but my 4 girls never have.
I have 2 males and 2 females and none of them really spin like some dogs I have seen. Mine just sort of wander around until they find the spot. My brother has a female and she spins so maybe it is just an individual thing.
My two female chow/golden mixes hunch over, poop a little, turn a little, poop a little, turn a little, poop and smell the first release. It’s basicslly their way of a self checkup.

Now that you’ve asked & I’m thinking about it, only one of my two (both females) does this: the black lab.
The other, a boxer mix, has a sense of modesty in simply prefering that I not watch. She also dislikes rain on her face & will only pee if she thinks she can hold her bowels until the rain stops. Funny critter, my Olive.
