Are you sure you aren't thinking of BB guns. The pellet guns I am familiar with can kill you. I have one that will go through a one inch pine board.

Nope Pellet. 50 years later that cute dimple in my left cheek from the hollow point reminds me of the day!! LOL
My Daisy .177 shoots at 750 feet per second. It buries itself about 1/4 inch into a typical treated wood fence post at 40 feet.
And it’s a cheap pellet gun.
This past summer a little kid up in the foothills got shot in the chest with one and died. He was pretty small for his age, and took a hit that was probably 1-1,000,000 for hitting a vital area.
Most of the competition guns for American field target will kill you fairly easily with the right shot (19.5 ftlb is the limit I believe). World Federation is 12.5 ftlb to mollify all the candy ass nations so the likely hood of serious injury is less there, but a .177 at that level could still do harm placed in the right spot.
Outside of competition you can get a production .30 cal at 100+ ftlb and it shoots 1/2-1 MOA at 100 yards too I believe, that’ll make you dead...
