As somebody who has shot bench-rest for over 20 years and has about 12 year's of banging steel out to 1200 yards, I'm amazed and disappointed at some of these response. Find a good 700 and put some good glass on it and you'll be fine. while the 308 is not my favorite caliber it will do you fine. As far as those talking about the 700 triggers, well all I can say is if you don't know what your doing don't touch it. the reports on the Remington triggers was bullchit and a result of people messing with something they shouldn’t have. Remington has not changed their trigger but the did put a proprietary epoxy in the adjustment screws and that seemed to solve their problems.
