Yep. I shake my head when I hear “my wife wont’ let...”. Isn’t it called marriage? You have no say in what your kid does in life? The commercials and sitcoms of the stupid, useless white father have seeped into our collective consciousness.
Yup. That one has been p!$$ing me off for years.
Lowest form of life in commercials? White Male. Can't cook. Can't feed a child a TV dinner (Heaven help him if Super Mom has to go away on business...then he gets a lesson on the color coded Tupperware in the 'fridge). Can't do anything that could be considered domestic. Has all the neat tools or wants them but has no clue how to use them. Black Males occupy the Madison Avenue rung just above the White Male.
The Highest form of life in commercials? The Black Female. She takes no crap from anyone. She can do anything. She knows everything. NO ONE may contradict her. If it happens, watch out.
Hispanic Females occupy the Madison Avenue rung right below the Black Female.
A local commercial for a salvage company runs on our ABC affiliate station. It shows a man who wants to restore an old car, but instead has to get rid of it because his wife won't allow it. She shakes her finger in his face and takes the keys, and he runs after her like a child, begging for them.
You're right that this mindset has been internalized. I see and hear outright disdain and contempt for men from many women.
