Sorry to horn in...so, with your shellfish allergy, you can eat calamari?? This is great news! My allergy popped up several years ago...after many years of enjoying (no, loving) shrimp, lobster... :-( I’ve stayed away from calamari as I wasn’t sure about it. Thanks.

Jane, you aren’t ‘horning in’ - this is an open forum for everyone.

Yes, I can eat calamari - as it is not a shell fish - and I have no problem with it at all.

I stay away from clams, oysters, crab, crawdads, etc - anything with a shell.

A couple things I have discovered that I am leary of:

Glucosamine Condroitin - is made from shrimp shell. (If one piece of the meat gets into the pill - it could be fatal, for me.)

Another thing that I stay away from is Diatomaceous earth, which is made from the ground up shells of deep sea plankton or hard-shelled algae. There is some evidence that it can cause a reaction with someone with a shell-fish allergy.
