I was doing some compulsory outdoor work today, and was “talking” to a birdie. It must have been a mockingbird because the call was atypical—sounded like a bar from a song as opposed to an actual bird call.
I think the mockingbird seeks to intimidate rivals by appearing to be a multitude of birds.
But when you listen to them, it’s hard not to think that they may be singing for the sheer joy of it.
