Four incidents where the race was given. Why is there an "and/or" in that sentence? The race was given.

Because of mixed race, likely.

I would go with an "and" there.

Zimmerman was white and hispanic, or the even the newly-minted, just for that case, "white hispanic."

An "or" means you don't know and makes no sense in a sentence about that which you claim to know.
