It was the story he had denied. The story Emma O'Reilly went some way to telling when she exposed Lance Armstrong as a drug cheat. But when the conversation moved to the subject of that positive test in 1999, he not only agreed with her that she had been right but went a stage further. O'Reilly always believed there was a bigger conspiracy and with her sitting before him he finally revealed the full scale of the cover-up, naming Hein Verbruggen as a central figure in his escape from punishment.

I was only following orders!!!
Shut up scumbag!
Armstrong was the best cyclist of his era. All of them were at it. He is a scapegoat because the authorities wish to blame somebody other than themselves for allowing the situation to continue. Doubters wait and see!
Basically, the Tour de France before Armstrong came along...was an interesting 2nd-level sports event that drew some viewers from France and Germany, and maybe a 100,000 viewers from the US. It wasn’t a big deal.
Once Lance won the second race....it was a magnet. The cycling world may not have planned this massive draw, but they saw the benefits after the 2nd year of Armstrong. From that point on....Lance was giving them a boost up each single year. They drew more people....bigger contracts.....more endorsements. Everybody in cycling....made money from the Lance years.
Now? Reality has crept back into the sport. The Tour de France is like minor league baseball. The top level of management is back to working at a real job and consider cycling as a part-time thing to manage.
Good — now we’re getting someplace.
Wouldn’t doubt it, just like in politics, they all saw a way to make more money. Lance brought the sport to life, drew huge endorsements, why not “help” him win over & over!
Hopefully it will end all the Lance wannabes’ to stop wearing those effeminate bike outfits and stop clogging traffic.
"Amen, Brother!"
Lance is being sued by five or so entities for millions. One is the US Post Office which sponsored his team. Lance could be left penniless. As such he is going to lie and say anything to preserve his money and tattered reputation. I think Lance is worth in between 50-100 million and he could lose it all
Toss-up.
You're absolutely right! What I find ironic is that even tho he won the races, his "stage" wins were dismally low.
There's no question in my mind that all top racers were doping, they had to be if they were going to keep up with Armstrong. After all, the drugs made him "super" didn't they?
Baseball did the same thing after the baseball strike: juiced players and juiced balls led to an enormous increase in offense which translated into increased gate receipts.
Then, Bonds, Sosa, and the rest get trashed. The fact that Rafael Palmeiro finished with more home runs than Mike Schmidt pretty much says it all.
I have no doubt either. Many years ago I read an expose in one of those liberal local magazine/newsprint-papers, by a former pro bicyclists.. Basically, he said what you said, that ALL the top guys were doped, every single one, the ones that weren't, were never at the top. Thats why, whenever a doping scandal broke out, you never heard his fellow competitors trash him or condemn him, because they ALL were doing it.
Picture of Danny H?
Taken immediately after he scored 100% Conservative (higher than anyone else at his work, dontchano?) on the conservative test that they give everyone there.
