My wife and I bought that DNA test kit. Although she was born and raised in England and looks completely Anglo-Saxon, she found out she has a black ancestor from about 500 years ago. I found out I have some east Asian ancestor more in the distant past than hers (the Mongol hordes?). So what? I suspect there are many more people who sincerely believe they’re “purebreds” of some sort.
DNA testing would certainly have thrown a little kink into Hitler’s plan to define a Master Race, eh?
My brother did the DNA kit. We thought we were half German and half Macedonian, although my mom thought grandma was part Turkish. Turns out we are half German, and half “southeastern European.” In other words, Macedonian.
The interesting thing is that the kit he used will find genetic matches for family members who have also used the same kit. It accurately identified some distant cousins.
