Wow! That could have turned out so differently! God bless you for staying calm! I would have freaked.

I was there on business, so a positive outcome was desirable. Futhermore, the entire incident resulted from a gap in the hotel's process (and not in their policy). Plus the cops were reasonable about it and not defensive or arrogant. It was pretty clear a tragedy had been averted and I still don't know why I didn't simply say "I am done speaking with you and will discuss your disturbing of my family's rest with your manager in the morning" and shut the door on her.

I'll put it down to good manners up front.

If the officer was polite I can understand responding in kind. It turned out well because you both kept your cool. Thank goodness she wasn’t on a power trip.
