The only semi-auto rifles I've heard of are ARs. What's the largest caliber semi-auto rifle that's worth owning?
If you can find an old Remington 742 they were pretty good. If I remember they came in .270, .308, and .30-06.
HK 91’s and 93’s are good if you want to go the assault way.
Browning BAR up to .338 WIN MAG
Barrett M82
Semi auto? Springfield M1A in .308
If you want a semi-auto that isn’t an AR, you might want to consider the Ruger mini-30, which shoots 7.62x39, a decent cartridge.
Another, slightly harder to find item is the Winchester (I think) model 100, which is available (used) in .243, .270, .308. A friend has one and it’s a very nice hunting rifle.
Personally, I bought a Ruger Gunsite Scout for my bolt action pleasure. It’s a very nice rifle, you might like to have a look at it.
Regards,
I sold it because it was really too big for anything I hunted.
lets talk in terms of ammo- what is currently NOT in short supply and expensive?
