You need to help us out here: Where will you be hunting and in what kind of terrain? Some states (or zones within a state) only allow slugs for deer hunting in which case I recommend a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. Other states (or zones within states) allow rifles for deer hunting, but without more information, we can't give an intelligent response.

I do mostly bushwhacking for deer in places where the average shot is 100 yds or less and usually a lot closer than that. I use a Marlin 336c lever action in 30-30 Win (http://www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/centerfire/336C.asp) using an aftermarket Skinner aperture sight because scopes and other optic sights are worthless at that distance when shooting through the brush and foliage. That would not be my choice, however, if hunting at longer distances in open spaces like in Arizona and Colorado.

something I thought was too cool to resist- Rossi Circuit Judge

It is a a revolver shotgun AND rifle. shoots both .45 cal pistol bullets and 410 shotgun shells (which are so darn cute!)

Plus, when the zombie apocalypse comes it can be 'modified' down to a pistol size, if you catch my drift- (but DONT DO THAT BECAUSE IT WOULD BE ILLEGAL! ONLY IN THE EVENT OF ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE)
