I apologize in advance because I am not overly educated nor well spoken.
I do NOT understand the national fixation with political families and cronies. The Bushes, the Clintons, the Kennedys, etc., and their "inner circle" friends.
Can someone educate me? Is there a reason we keep electing the same political class, in election after election? Both parties do it, and the people jump at the chance to vote for them.
I will never vote for another Bush, or Clinton, or Kennedy. I will never vote for their campaign henchmen either.
Am I just dumb? I want NEW people with NEW ideas, and with far less corruption in their pasts. There are Congressmen who have been in office since the SEVENTIES!!!! Really????? I do like Rand Paul, but at least he had a real actual JOB before he ran for office. So many of our politicians have NEVER had to deal with real life outside the beltway. I am honestly befuddled. :-/
Would an intervention help?
We live in an era of political celebrity. Our media create faux royal families for dumbbells to fawn over. This started with Kennedy’s Camelot (bing it) and Obama is the latest and most egregious example of puffery by so-called journalists.
Those politicians favored by media are exalted and shown in flattering ways. Those not favored get the opposite treatment.
This is a calculated subversion of how the free press is supposed to operate.
Go ahead and laugh. I weep. Our Republic is as dead as the Roman Republic.
Name recognition has a lot to do with the political family dynasty. Actually you dont necessarily have to be a member of that family. Just about anyone with the name Brown seems to be able to get elected in Ohio.
Then there are the advantages of the good ole boy connections that a successful politician can give to his children.
Then there is the simple fact that the children of a politician grow up in the political environment; it become second nature, it is what is talked about at the dinner table. It is the family business, the children are basically living as political squires to their knighted parents.
You cant nail it down to just one thing. But for the low information voters it is simply the name that they here all the time. It is familiar.
You forgot wives. I’d add, ESPECIALLY wives!
It amazes me whenever the wife of a politician gets elected to anything. Besides marriage, what qualifies a wife to hold office?
It’s not just in the USA. Think of Corazon Aquino in the Philippines and Winnie Mandela in South Africa.
Looks and personality are certainly important. I’ve read studies have shown that good looking, tall men tend to be more successful.
