When they saw that their victim was awake, the brazen burglars fled. She gave chase, throwing tomahawk in hand.
'I could have thrown it,' Ms Irvine said. 'I could have put it right in his spine. It would have paralyzed him.'
But she chose restraint because the burglar was already fleeing, she said.
A police officer who responded to Ms Irvine's 911 call arrested Nicholas Joseph Ulloa, 22, minutes later.
He found the man hiding behind a bush near Ms Irvine's trailer.
He had a bag full of items, including possessions with Ms Irvine's name on them.
The second burglar remains at large.

Missed opportunities rarely present themselves again. This could have had a happier ending.

If she had seriously injured or killed a burglar who was still in her house, she probably would not have been charged as generally, if your house is broken into and you reasonably feel threatened, you may attack with a deadly weapon.
A burglar story that made me almost feel sorry for the burglar, was in Beckwith’s book Delta Force, as they were getting ready to go on the mission in Iran, one of the Delta Force shooters found a burglar in his home, the burglar didn’t get a shot off.
While not a sword... still an edged weapon, so I suppose it’s worth a quick... Sword Ping!!!
A tomahawk makes for a nice weak-hand weapon to accompany an arming sword, and can be pretty darn effective all by itself. :-)
I guess you could say she axed them to leave...

I hope it wasn’t a automatic assault throwing tomahawk or had a capacity of 30 throws per throwing arm.
...19. Let the enemy come till he’s almost close enough to touch, then let him have it and jump out and finish him up with your hatchet. — Robert Rogers’ Standing Orders (found in the US Army Rangers Handbook).
While the simple tomahawk is a fine weapon, oddly enough, tomahawk technology has kept up with the times. There are today tomahawks that are both multi-tool and would be downright frightening in a fight.
For example, the Innovation Factory Handy Rescue Multi-tool.
