Different world in tornado alley during a time when we didn’t have any early warning systems, no TV and only a small dial radio. My daddy paid attention to his right elbow and the behavior of the cows and our horse. I hated the root cellar. Just too scary for a kid.
When I was a kid growing up in Nebraska our safe haven was the coal bin in the basement. Root cellar sounds much better.
