It's going out on top, not running the show into the ground with ever worse seasons, giving the whole show an arc that begins and ends, rather than stretching things out in ever more tired ways.

The Brits like to talk about that -- about letting a television show just die a natural death, rather than prolonging it unnecessarily -- but then they just bring the same stuff back with another name.

Here's hoping Gilligan & crew find something really new and exciting to amaze us with in the future.

In a way the series was just a modern adaptation of a very old tragedy like the story of King Midas. Even the name of the final season Ozymandius is a reference to getting everything you want and being left with nothing but devastation and a crumbling monument.

Granted the show was not for kids but we do need more like it in society.
