The problem with this is that historically the civilized man is quite often in the wrong.

Love the episode....loved even more the two part last season, ST Enterprise series “Through a Mirror, Darkly”.
especially loved the opening credits and the twisting of the Zephram Cochrane rearrangement of ‘first contact’, from the ST Movie of the same name....
It’s a shift in consciousness. People used to be nice because they had self control and knew about evil. Now you cannot criticize, and if you do you are not considered loving or nice. They dont get it.
Also humanism is the new religion. People are against spanking or controlin our government, not because they are necessarily afraid or lazy, but because they want to enjoy this chaos, they do not want to be bothered into self control, only maybe forced to the random whims of a thug or master.
Yes, the scenes of the Defiant were very well done. Someone actually dove into the old Star Trek blueprints and found that there was a aft phaser array that had never been shown before. And I always thought the Tholians deserved a more thorough butt-kicking, so the episode was satisfying in that regard as well. However, Bakula's mirror-universe Captain Archer made me appreciate just how nuanced Shatner could be, despite all the criticism to the contrary.
Around the same time Luna did the “Star Trek” episode, she was also in an “F.B.I.” episode, with her hair up and classily attired, really looking quite fetching.
I met her once, and I believe, like a lot of actors who guested in “Trek,” is somewhat bemused that out of a long career and HUNDREDS of tv roles, it’s this one singular appearance that everyone cites to her.

Given the premise of “Mirror, Mirror”, that alternate universe would be getting better.

Understandable: there's some REALLY good stories in the original series: Balance of Terror, City on the Edge of Forever, Let That Be Your Last Battlefield, Mirror, Mirror…
You should watch the first season of Mission:Impossible on Netflix. That was also filmed at Desilu, and you will see the same supporting actors playing supporting roles in M:I, too. Even some of the same sets, if you look closely enough.

There was a short-run show where they used the same sets from Gilligan’s Island for a season or two!! I forget the name of it though.
Talk about recycling
Roddenberry was indeed the sleaze, and notoriously used his producer status for babes. But actresses who guested on “Trek” like Barbara Luna, or Madlyn Rhue, or Antoinette Bower, and such, had VERY busy and successful careers going on, and hardly needed to succumb to Roddenberry’s “casting-couch favors” for roles. Each would probably laugh in Roddenberry’s face, because they’d have a “Gunsmoke” or “Fugitive” or “Mission: Impossible” role lined up the very next week.

I used to think that, but I have come to the conclusion that there are deeper issues of conflict than mere melanin content of the skin. I'm tired of trying to be altruistic when I/we do not get the same pass.
BTW, Whom Gods Destroy was my all time fave.
I also have to say that the 4-Season “Enterprise
was the only spinoff that approached the original and surpassed it at times.
