Well, the thing to remember is that no one dies laughing... not at least intentionally. So, here’s to being the cynic.

I would say a little of both. Played professionally for 22 years, and have about 4 compositions that need to be put to paper.

You know what - I worked in Funeral Service for three years. Had a couple of suicides in that time. The embalmer that I worked with had been in the business for about 17 years at the time.
He told me he had never seen a suicide who had a smile on their face.

Lemme guess, never had to study in high school or college, probably never cracked a book and found himself needing a real job with no skills, education or experience.
Might have made a good Mall Cop tackling petty thieves

I ask because I find the process of composition generally depressing, but not playing what’s already written. There are a lot of things in life that are tedious, boring, stressful, and downright horrid, but composition is in a category unto itself; as such, I tend to avoid it.

Good!
I have found the most helpful “therapy” is getting outside and looking around, shutting down the internal dialogue.
And music. Music ALWAYS helps. Here’s a favorite of mine:

(Yeah, Daryl Hannah actually sang the backup vocals.)

Good advice on all and music is a biggie for me even if it is a sad song.

Thank you for that. I have always had a less than positive opinion of Clarence’s tone, but that doesn’t take away from the message.

I have no idea. I had never heard of him until this thread.

Self-murder is always sad, especially for those left behind. But it is always murder.

I know exactly how you feel. People who have never had those feelings do not know what it is like.
