Some years back while backroad travelling from Alex., LA, I heard what sounded like the biggest chainsaw ever. Then I saw the Warthogs flying around and as they poured a ton of lead out the front you could hear the sound. Quite impressive. I sure would not want one of them looking for me.

Some months later I was invited to the Target Range for the nearby airbase and saw closeup these baddest of the badboys in action.

Later during Desert Storm, A-10s were stationed at Barksdale AFB and several pilots lived nearby in the country. They all seemed to love the ugly A-10.

I’ve posted this before, but it was interesting to me: Many years ago I was engaged in photo services for a group reunion of WWII pilots. Every one of them had flown both aircraft in combat and all preferred the P-47 to the ‘51. They said the Jug would get you home more often than the ‘Stang.

And every one of them loved strafing.
