My niece was in school at Harvey Mudd College in California on 9/11/01

One of her teachers refused to even mention the attack.

Same one that told the class that no man should be able to own property

So did the Attacks come up? This was on the Scale of the Moon landing or WWII. Only people living in the Amazon Jungle and Mars didn't hear about it.
