Need purchasing advice (vanity)

Hello all,

I need some advice on purchasing a handgun. I live in the People’s Republic of MD and the new gun control laws are about to take effect (Oct 1st).

I am in the market for a .45. I was looking at cheaper than dirt at several models and would appreciate any hints you can give regarding a purchase.

Have you dealt with buying guns from cheaper than dirt? Do you have a better source/way to do this?

What is the proper procedure for completing this purchase from an on-line retailer?

I would also like recommendations for handguns in the $500 class. Will consider going to $700 if there is a really good reason to do so.

This purchase is for home defense.

Used by over 65% law enforcement in America...

And probably that % of NDs, notably among "law enforcement".

1911 pattern works great. You have to shoot it on purpose.

I'm fine with your choice of firearm, but not the retailer.

CTD was really disappointing in how they handled the panic.

Clearly, they decided in being the first to charge the most, that maximizing short-term profits mattered more than taking care of loyal customers.

Its still a capitalistic system. They can make their choices, I can make mine.

Go to galleryofguns.com...
Type in 45ap for caliber. You can also specify semiauto or revolver for handguns.
Click yes only in stock.
Make a selection based on general price and style preference.
Search for the local FFLs that will handle the transaction and the discounted price based on distance you want to travel to pick it up. Choose one.
Complete the transaction by credit card and you technically own the gun.
It will then be sent immediately to the FFL dealer you chose and you then pay the final payment, taxes, and pass the background check in order to take possession of your gun.

Yeah, I’ve been hearing that. I’m considering others now besides CTD...

You may also find safety or concealed carry courses at your local community college.

Look at a small revolver if this your first pistol. .38 will work fine.

Go to a gun store and spend quality time in holding and dry-firing as many models as you can. Ask questions and listen to suggestions. Research like this and on other web sites is your friend, keep doing it! Everybody’s hand is different and what fits one person may not do for another. Consider your purpose for having a pistol, is for home defense or is it to carry? If you can narrow your choice down to 2 or 3, buy some firing range time with those. then you can make an educated choice! Best of luck!

Definitely home defense. If the balloon goes up. I’ll add carry.

Just helped a friend become a full American. Taught him safety, handling, grip, stances, etc.

He wanted a gun like mine, a Kimber. Told him not necessary and he could buy 2 or 3 for what I paid. I also have Springfield XD which he liked.

There was only one gun in his price range available, a Glock 19.

We put it on hold and rented a Glock 19. He felt comfortable with it and bought the one on hold.

Put couple hundred roundd through with no failures.

I like the XD Springfields. They are safer than a Glock. People and police keep shooting themselves with Glocks.

XDM’s are very nice. I love my 1911’s.....they are top notch. But the XDM is a high capacity gun with a very nice feel to it. And for the people who recommend Glocks.....understand they have no safety.

Forgot to add......another great gun is the SR45, though I like my 1911’s best and my XDM after that.
