Aww, have I missed the party?

OK - 53, but not sure if I’m kooky or not. My teenage kids would probably say yes. :-) But in a good way.... I guess in normal world (pre 1965) I would not be kooky, but now we live in upside-down world, post-hippie Obamalala-land so probably am kooky for the present day.

I was born at the very end of the Eisenhower Admin. But my dad said he was a good President.

47 years ago I was being constantly manhandled by Marine Corps Drill Instructors.....and would continue to be until October.

....did learn a bunch of new words during that period, though - pukeface, scumbag, maggot - and one or two more.

That was a wonderful thread, and nobody in it was “kooky.” I don’t know how old they were, but they were old enough to mourn for the America that used to be.

I’m 65 this month. I rarely post about my grandkids. They are all toddlers, and unless they are sick, needing prayer, they are fine. I was a democrat during the late 60s, but voted for Nixon in ‘72. I’ve voted R for president every time since...at least every chance given. Some of the overseas years we did not receive the requested ballots. There was no “online option” then.

“...since I told the old lady on the phone that I didn’t contribute to left wing communist organizations...”

HAHAH! You didn’t!! That’s PERFECT!!!

Poor old lady probably had ZZERO clue where you were coming from.

Maybe I should do that as well, so they stop bothering me.

The DAY after I turned 50, I started getting mailings and assorted crap from them... It was weird.

I'm still some years away from 50 and I have been receiving AARP spam as well as hearing aid direct mailings for a while. Oh, and they seem to think I need a back brace "at no cost to me." My back is sturdy. Why, just yesterday I carried my dog nearly 100 yards after he gave out in the heat during a hike.

They’re relentless... typical liberal organization.

But it costs them money to send mail, so... send away!!

I’m over 60 but never voted for Nixon. I always thought he was a big-government liberal.

Today, someone posts that "elderly kooky types" "infest FR" and "go on and on about their grandchildren and what a great president Eisenhower was."

None of that bothered me in the least. What threw me for a loop was when the poster typed, "I don't dislike Obama..."

Why, just yesterday I carried my dog nearly 100 yards after he gave out in the heat during a hike.

Bless you, sir, for that. I would do the same for mine. Without a doubt, if the situation was reversed, and if they could, they would do the same for us.

Now to the other reason to post. I'm 66. If a bit old-fashioned is "kooky," then I will accept the label. I feel bad for the "young-uns" who have not known the America I grew up in. Growing up, my family never locked the house door. Most summers from the first day school was out 'til the night before it started again, I slept outside. Listened to radio on those nights from such exotic places as Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Took some long bike rides in the middle of the night, too, both with friends and alone.

Worked full-time from senior year in high school (from 6 to noon in a bakery, then school in the afternoon) 'til my wife and I sold our business in '99. Had my own .22 before I was a teenager. Bought my own first car, a '56 Ford (fiesta red and colonial white), 292, two-door. Sold her in '68 when I came home on leave, and regretted it every day after. Needed the money, though.

Well, I guess that's enough to prove that by today's yardstick I'm at least a little "kooky."

“..did learn a bunch of new words during that period...”

Hey, a little Vocabulary Enhancement is ALWAYS a good thing!!

My pacific Marine uncles taught me LOTS of Vocabulary Enhancing words... as did my Army Airborne Dad... (Mom, however, did NOT appreciate the new additions to my personal dictionary...heheh)...

“...carried my dog nearly 100 yards ...”

Well, with THREE mutts - two beagles and a goldie - I’d have one on each shoulder and the other across my chest...

That would be a sight, wouldn’t it??? “Dogs Walk Man”.... Ha!

I stay in touch with a "boot camp buddy".....we still have a ton of fun going over the 'commands' we'd receive.

I made it a point during that time to not go zoned-out, because I knew I'd have a shitpot fulla fun with it way down the line....it worked!

"Lean Forward" was my motto way before Fat Albert thought of it.....I should sue the sonofabitch.
