One of the architectural quirks of certain cities on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. is the solo row house.
Standing alone, in some of the worst neighborhoods, these nineteenth century structures were once attached to similar row houses that made up entire city blocks.
Time and major demographic changes have resulted in the decay and demolition of many such blocks.
Occasionally, one house is spared - literally cut off from its neighbors and left to the elements with whatever time it has left.
Still retaining traces of its former glory, the last house standing is often still occupied.

Last houses standing: The beautiful row houses once part of sprawling tenements that illustrate Baltimore's urban decay
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
there. fixed it.
Remember Baltimore is “Nasty” Nancy Pelosi’s “Hometown”.
Only what you’d expect in a city run by black democrats
When I was very small in the 50s I rode in the back seat of my parents’ car through Baltimore several times and I remember street after street of those row houses. It is my entire remembered impression of the city. It was declining neighborhoods even then.
There were so many times when I had to travel on Fayette or Baltimore St to service equipment at Bon Secours Hospital. It was disgraceful to see the condition of the once beautiful neighborhoods. That was over 10 years ago. I can only imagine how much worse it has become.
One more example of a once great city run into the sh*thole by the corruption and failed social policies of the Democrat party
Those pictures remind me of the pictures we see of Detroit sometimes posted here.
Well, neglect, youth gang violence, decent people having moved out decades ago, druggies taking over abandoned properties, liberal policies encouraging all of these things happening, and the result is places which resemble Berlin after World War II.
Funny place for a mercedes to be parked. I suppose it’s not where you live but what you drive that counts in some parts of town.
Last time I was in Balmawr some of these sqalid ramshackle old townhomes were being rehabbed and gentrified at an astounding rate.
My assumption was that under Obama the Federal Government is gushing money at such an obscene rate it has overflowed the D.C. basin and many Federal workers now saw a gentrified Balmawr townhome and an hour long train ride as an option.
Urban decay - It isn’t just for Detroit, anymore.
I have gotten into trouble on several occasions by referring to Baltimore as “Detroit with Crabcakes”.
Mrs. Buckeye, a Detroit native, in particular was not a fan of this.
But, in some places, old neighborhoods have been rehabilitied and renovated, and come back to life.
However, when that happens, the likes of Jesse Jackson decry “gentrification” and the fact that long time residents are forced out by rising rents.
I wonder what the likes of Jesse Jackson thinks cause these slum areas to get that way. And does he really think that investors and “Yuppies” who have revived some inner city areas are really the bad guys because poor residents who are renters get forced out if an area is revived.

********
I have similar memories as we used to visit some relatives who lived in a row house near Memorial Stadium.
You do not want to be riding around in any of these ‘hoods’ at night. Baltimore is a dangerous city.
It’s going to be cleaned and waxed, looking showroom good. However, if your behind it, you’ll be choking on blue smoke from the oil being burned. Open the hood and you’ll find a disgrace to match the pictured homes.
I’ve heard that there are commuter trains from Baltimore to Washington, and that Baltimore real estate is a good bit cheaper than in the Washington DC area. So wouldn’t be surprised if federal workers/contractors are living in Baltimore and commuting to Washington.
Baltimore is a festering crap hole. If someone tries to tell you the Inner Harbor is cool, tell them to stuff it. Will never ever go back.
“Yeah, but do I look good?” LOL!
Don’t worry - the Federal Government will eventually expand so large with printed Federal Reserve money, the DC property market will in time grow to include Baltimore as well. Those row houses will be snapped up by young government apparatchiks and consultants working on our latest nationalization scheme for $8,000,000
