recluses are pretty rare up north. tend to stop finding them north of the Ohio river. not saying it isn’t possible though.
It was probably a wolf spider and it thought that she was Little Red Riding Hood.
If you get a chance listen to her interview. She is so cute and genuine that I think the cops would do it again without hesitation.
Probably a hobo spider. They get pretty big and are brown.
Did they shoot her dog for good measure?
The spider is guilty. The girl is not guilty.
I don't think Rush mentioned any of that, but then again I was only half listening while I was doing something else.
Brown Recluse spiders have an “hourglass” shape on their backs.
I think I got bitten by one a few years ago. There was a real tendency to want to scratch it, as it seemed to itch more than ache. Though that’s where the real problem can start as it spreads the venom and gets easily infected.
Don’t scratch the bite.
Sorry. It’s not an “hougless”, but a “violin”. My fault.
Given her circumstances I don’t blame her a bit for calling the cops for a possible Brown Recluse or a Hobo spider. Can’t tell from the pic she took what it was though. Cops should have sent its little corpse off to have it identified. Either that or the family should hire an exterminator to come see if they have an infestation going on.
Did they toss a stun grenade in, followed by black-clad armored troops rushing from a tracked APC and kill any dogs they saw?
Two observations:
1) The cute gal was simply using an effective method to meet single men, in this case rogue bachelor cops. Can you blame her as she does not have full use of the legs.
2) You can bet our DOJ head Holder is getting the paperwork to file a civil rights lawsuit, as the spider is of ‘color’ and the girl is....white. Sharpton and Jackson’s phones are ringing non-stop, and it is apparent this it is a hate crime. Don’t let the sweetness fool you. Chicks like this gotta hate, and if you’re a spider of color....
His name is Bob.
Nearly every spider I kill in my house looks like a brown recluse. For a time that is what I thought they were.
The easiest tip off that they are not is my spiders have spiny hairs on their legs while the recluse doesn’t. Mine do have the violin shape on their top side. Their eyes are also a little bit different.
They are also about the same shape, size and color..
I did read an article in Outdoor Life several years ago that there are actually more than just the black widow and brown recluse which are venomous. For that reason I kill every one I see.
Every once in a while I come home from work and find a coffee cup upside down on the living room floor.
That’s about as far as the wife will go when she finds a creepy-crawlie in the house, then leaves it for me to dispose of.
I usually just slide a paper underneath, then throw them into the neighbor’s yard.
This is the sweetest story I have read in a long while. In this day & age, it takes a measure of innocence & trust to call the police because of a spider and the cops did what cops do—Protect and Serve.
