In Florida you can’t increase the price of the gas you’re selling unless you’ve bought more gas at a higher price. So, you see tiny fuel trucks running from station to station in the dark of night. They pump 100 gallons and leave a bill at the higher price. This is done so that a store doesn’t have a lower price than others. That would mean they’d sell out of gas quickly. They don’t make much profit on gas, but they do make $16 on beer and cigarettes for every $1 of gas sold. That’s the reason. It’s not because there’s conspiracy to raise prices. The stores couldn’t care less as their profit is so low. They just don’t want to run out.
