Oh, Laz, I’m sorry to read in your tagline about the loss of your kitty. Our cats are dear to us, and I know the pain of losing one.

So it’s not the real thing, people just take it for granite.

Maybe you should take that up with the God of all creation. He's the one that did it and told us His timeline. Whether you believe Him or not is truly your own terrible problem. In the end, we will all see.

Really? God told us? I have never seen a Bible published by God. they all are penned by men. As far as the End goes, you can only hope.

or are your assumptions based on unprovable assumptions?

What's your standard for "provable"? In absolute terms, all of empirical science is based on assumptions about physical constants.

It is assumed that they are constant because they always measure the same, but there is always the logical escape hatch that says it's impossible to prove a negative, so you can't prove that there is never any variance.

Obviously demanding the adoption of that standard would destroy the foundations of modern empirical science, but we're not anti-science here, right?

Massachusetts, I suppose you’ll just have to wait and see. Judging by your—and some other “smart” ones’—reaction here, I guess you’re willing to bet your eternity on it.

I’m sorry about that.

Yeah. I guess he thinks that if we tell God’s truth about creation, that it will somehow make leftist, lunatic nutjobs hate us even more. I’m not sure why we should give a rip about what leftist “enemies of conservatism” think, but I guess he understands what he means.

What is ignorant about this claim, Bernie?

That the BS "sources" you reference (and the people who draw silly conclusions from them) ignore long-known science. Granite is one of several basic rocks that crystallize from magma. Granites often form the "roots" of mountain ranges like the Sierra Nevada and indicate slower cooling than extrusives like basalt. Maybe there are certain conditions that allow granitic crystallization to occur very quickly -- possibly changes in pressure or temperature or the sudden introduction of new feedstocks -- but I want to see original source material, not papers with the bogus "Creation Science" imprimatur which is the definition of an oxymoron.

You're not going to require them to make their own scratch?

On small scales, some of these “rapid geology” theories work. They’re nonsensical on global scales.

As I age I’m getting a perspective on what a century really is. Then I note that 10,000 years (typical “young Earth” timeframe) is just 100 hundred-year lifetimes back to back. Having seen what has happened in about half a century, and studied recorded history, it’s pretty easy to extrapolate what one could sensibly expect of geology in that timeframe. That leaves a ridiculously small period for a mind-boggling amount of geologic activity. Exponentiate that with the amount of energy required to make anything happen on that scale in that time, and you’re talking Earth-destroying levels of chaos and power, which have no hope of creating the nuanced structure we see layered within mountainous artifacts. It’s akin to expecting to assemble a building using a nuclear bomb; falling back on “well, if the bomb’s designer is really clever...” is not convincing.

Indeed GE has been making industrial diamonds for decades and gem quality stones are being made too. There are other gem stones, rubies I believe, being made.

Yeah. I guess he thinks that if we tell God’s truth about creation, that it will somehow make leftist, lunatic nutjobs hate us even more.

When you display ignorance and misrepresent science, then you're harming conservatism.

God lets us see the truth everyday about his creation, not at one particular time thousands of years ago.
