Perhaps farmers’ markets are next? In Ohio we already have so many regulations there are few things that can be sold simply. The farmer I buy our meat and eggs from has to jump through so many hoops it’s almost impossible for him to meet all the regs. Then there’s the raw milk issue! I make and can hot pepper mustard, hot pepper relish, jalapeños, and pepperoncini. I have to send these to work with my neighbor to him to illegally sell because cottage food laws in Ohio forbid these items. Jams and jellies are okay, but not these.
There have been proposals to make SNAP/food stamps an option for buying at a farmer’s market. When that happens, the farmer’s market is now fair game for federal regulation.
