I didn’t know they still sold new laptops and pcs with windows 7. is that the case for a lot of brands?

windows 8 is not as good imo too much like for a smart phone. they made a mistake

Are you strictly limited to 11.6 screen? If not you can get some great deals from Tiger on refurbished Asus 14” Windows 7 and W8 laptops for just $50 more with much better specs.

For value, look at the Acer Aspire and any of the Asus line. Good luck here with both, with both win7 and Ubuntu Linux.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L755 and have been happy with it for a couple of years. Under 500 at the time. Intel I3 Win7.

(I’ve never really exercised the battery though)

I’d get one that has easy access to the hard drive and then swap out for an SSD. SSDs are by far the best upgrade I’ve made in years.
I’ve done that to 3 laptops and 4 desktops for myself and my family. The worst experience was upgrading a dell inspiron. I had to remove the keyboard to get at the hard drive. Luckily utube vidios showed me how.
