Please help me choose which laptop to buy:

A http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AM7MM4I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

B http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0075ZRAKG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A33O72BR8EJNQK

I want to go with 'A' but it comes with Windows 8- which I'm not used to (I have always used 7) and afraid of. I hear a lot of negative comments about it.

I am at 2:50 remaining 70%.

That’s enough for me. Being a battery guy I am not a big fan of taking them to low.

I don’t think they swapped it, I think they throw it on a metal shelf or something. I am not even sure they wait for these things to be turned off all the way.

This PC has done well. It’s my home computer.

My work computer is a High-end Probook that is overloaded. It has extra battery cap that puts me in around 13 hours.

It does not keep it well and the entire bottom of it came off a few days ago. I would recommend to any student to get a laptop with 4 hrs cap. My L755 has everything they need. Just plug it in every chance you get.

Hey, if any FReepers are tossing an old Toshiba Satellite L-305 and the battery is okay, give it to me.

:p

I’m only 15 months from retirement. If they go from 7 to 8 next year sometime, I will have to deal with it very little.

I can also have all the time and IT support needed for work processes. At home I just want to turn it on and have it work. MS at home always requires a lot of preventative maintenance and upgrading maintenance time that I am tired of investing.

You have to choose what you want to optimize for. It sounds like, since you don’t like what you hear about windows 8, you’re operating for ease of use.

WinXP was easy to use, but Microsoft is discontinuing it. That makes it not-so-easy to use. Recently I moved over to Linux and that will never be “discontinued”. In terms of ease of use, price (free) and extended support, I recommend Linux.

Buy a 2nd battery, a 2nd power supply, and your computer will last a decade.

One thing I would optimize for in the next round would be a ruggedized platform similar to Sony’s.
