And it may be a result of a nuke capping procedure as someone else mentioned.
But it was discovered in 1949.
So that doesn’t fit.
It being a natural gas seep cone, that would explain people dying near it.

Wonder if they could do seismic tomography near there to get a view of what’s below?
Yep, need tomography, perhaps some test wells to find out what’s down there. Agree the date would have to be a fabrication for the nuke theory, but that theory lends itself better to the formation, the material it consists of, and the stated radioactivity.
I’m back to my original thought that something had to have created a nice round hole for the material below to be pushed back out of. Impact from a very dense and relatively small object is also a possibility of how the initial borehole was formed, IMO.
