We’ll be looking for your good reports!
Unfortunately, things did not go very well today. I went in to visit him and stayed a couple of hours. Towards the end of my visit, I could see he was laboring to breathe, and asked him if he was having difficulty. He said, “Yeah, it’s a little hard to breathe.” He was on 2 litres of O2 and his O2 sat according to the monitor was only 92-93. I mentioned it to the nurse when she came in to see if she could remove the tube from his femoral artery, and she said it was because he was lying flat. It didn’t sound right, but I let it pass. I ended up going home around 4:30, but my mom wanted to stay longer and my sister would pick her up about 7 pm.
I got a panicked phone call from my mom at 6:30 saying they had called a code indigo on Dad. I went into full “daughter” mode and rushed to the hospital, breaking about 50 laws on the way. When I got there, they were still working on him, and my mom was in the hallway talking to my cardiologist. He is *wonderful.* They had called him in because the arrogant cardiologist who treated my dad was nowhere to be found. Later on, I heard the charge nurse on the phone with the arrogant cardiologist apologizing profusely for stepping on his toes. I was furious, and will take this issue up at a later date.
When they wheeled my dad out to take him to ICU, I barely recognized him. His face was so swollen. After waiting for over an hour, they finally let my mom and nephew (who had to leave because he gets up at 4 am) go in to see him. Then, they let my sister, her boyfriend, and I go in. Dad looked so much better. He was on a bipap, and his O2 sats were 99-100, where they should be. The machine is uncomfortable (.45MAN hated it) and he was trying to talk, so we ended up leaving so he (and my mom) could get some rest.
More to follow. I am so grateful for all of the prayers and support.
