The poor in other countries learn from their families about food preparation, flavouring, and cooking techniques, using locally available ingredients. Many of them eat better than many north american poor do. Doesn’t say much for the so called poor here, eh?

“Poverty food” in most countries is inexpensive and highly nutritious. Otherwise, the poor would die. Anyone can live on a rural-poor diet, plus multi-vitamin/mineral supplements. My mother went for the Irish version, with lots of potatoes!
Our version of austerity rations is heavy on beans and peppers, because of my growing up in the Southwest, along with Midwestern garden vegetables.
