In pre-k he learned numbers up to 100, upper and lower case letters and sounds. He learned to write it all, his name and several other things like shapes and colors.
Most importantly he needed to prepare to become a student and interact with other children more.
Good on ya, Guy! You’re doing just fine!
My guy isn’t rude, just wants attention and to talk to others or to make them laugh.
Still I DID NOT let my son bother Samuel L. Jackson and no parent should IMO. He’s just a little cranky.
Sometimes you have to do that.
Somebody needs to know how it works, in order to plug it in and program it.
I didn’t think the kids needed access to more stuff to watch, but there it was.
LOL!
If it’s any consolation, I wouldn’t bother Samuel L Jackson, either!
I think even my kids would stand back from Samuel L. Jackson.
We do LOTS of home work as well of course. I think making them do their work for education feels like parent abuse, but it is for the good of your kids.
Sometimes it goes well and other times it’s a huge challenge to not raise your voice or lose your temper. Obviously at that age their brains are not connected up to even get some of the stuff.
You get mad inside when they drag what took one day 5 minutes into two hours.
Given the destructions, I can make anything work if I’m having a good day. If not, I can destroy the item in 30 seconds.
Of course he tries to blend in at places like Whole Foods wearing a Laker uniform. Don't we all go in basketball outfits grocery shopping?
Some kids can grasp some things a lot quicker than others. My son couldn’t do math, but he could read and write, and even wrote a short story when he was about 15.
Other kids like the abstract, and still others have a tough time with structured learning.
If you watch, you son will let you know which way he learns best.
I’m pretty good with destructions, but often I don’t really care that much about making the thing work.
Mine wants to play with the Ipad and watch TV IMO. It’s stuff he knows at times that he refuses to just do and get done. At times he bores himself and wastes just hours of our time.
I try to explain to him that if he just does this stuff quick as he can he could play more, but NO, that would be way too easy.
I’m sure nobody looks at him twice!
I often remind my children that they’re not doing their schoolwork for me - they’re doing it so that they can have opportunities for the rest of their lives. Your son isn’t going to understand that at 5, but you can keep it in mind.
Samuel L Jackson, I would shy away from. Lawrence Fishburne, however, would be someone I could approach.
When I was working in camera shops in LA, I ran into a lot of “stars.” Some demanded you acknowledge them as stars, and others were more than happy that you didn’t make a big deal out of waiting on them. The latter are the ones I like to this day.
My point is that my son knows a lot of the stuff already and makes it tough. One day he does all the same kind of work in one minute, the next day he could be uncooperative and make it take hours.
"Of course you're bored ... you're sitting at the table staring into space! You could get this work done in half an hour, and then be doing something you find more interesting, but noooo, you're going to sit here for hours staring into space. No problem for me - I'll chop vegetables no matter what you do."
Your son is ... like other kids. They figure it out, eventually, mostly.
I tell my son if he wants a big house, a Chrysler and 16 babies he needs to know this stuff to get a degree and get paid.
There are a lot of cool ones. But when I am walking around the Grove I don’t like Mario Lopez checking out my wife.
It will get through eventually. Not much gets through to a 5-year-old. Their minds are very immediate.
