A solar flare does not impact electronics.

If a solar flare takes out all the major transformers in the power grid, that will indirectly affect all electronics. No power grid, no recharging, and no shipping. No shipping, no batteries, and no fuel after local tanks go dry by siphoning. A solar flare might not have as large an initial impact as an EMP attack but long term, how much different would the effect be? The large transformers required to restore our power grid are built as needed, and now overseas. How long would it take to build, transport and install all those transformers? Would it ever happen, for that matter, if they're mostly made in China now?

“If a solar flare takes out all the major transformers in the power grid, that will indirectly affect all electronics.”

It won’t take out all major transformers. The experts seem to agree on that.

I’m not saying it’s not a significant event. I’m saying it’s not the same as a Nuclear EMP event as the author of the article, and the poster of the thread seems to think.

Your electronics will be fine. Your home generator will work. Many things will work fine. The grid would be de-integrated for a time and that could be a problem, but this isn’t “back to the stone-age” stuff.
