Congratulations on your retirement!
My district is in an upstate NY suburb. Overall, we like it. There’s just been recent problems with spending choices, Administrative decisions, and teachers actually making mistakes in grading. Simple things that make a big difference. The Regents requirements have changed and sent people scrambling. I was not in a good mood when I started the thread!
Too much focus on none academics, such as physical fitness and diet of students.
An administration that would rather be the students friends instead of enforcing discipline, especially with kids who are continual behavior problems.
My colleague teaches language, and she has been told she can not spend too much time on grammar.
She is actually afraid they are going to come into the classroom when she is covering grammar.
Our states grades in science are in the mid 90's, so they have pretty much left me and the physical science teacher alone.
I really feel sorry for those just entering the teaching profession.
I heard that “no cursive” was part of Common Core but honestly I haven’t looked into it that closely.
The theory is, if kids can’t read/write cursive they can’t read our founding documents which were all written in cursive. Of course they are available online but who’s to say some leftist won’t change the wording?
