(more good news) Stevie Wonder Boycotting Florida Following Zimmerman Verdict
cbs ^ | 7-16-13

Stevie Wonder plans to avoid Florida at all costs following the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in a Sanford, Fla., gated community.

While performing in Quebec City, Canada, on Sunday, the 63-year-old singer said he wouldn't perform in the state so long as the Stand Your Ground law is still in existence.

"I decided today that until the Stand Your Ground law is abolished in Florida, I will never perform there again," Wonder told the crowd. "As a matter of fact, wherever I find that law exists, I will not perform in that state or in that part of the world."

The law allows people to defend themselves with force if they feel threatened in their home, business, car or a place where they "have a legal right to be."

In a video clip from the show, posted on YouTube, Wonder asked for fans' support: "The truth is that -- for those of you who've lost in the battle for justice, wherever that fits in any part of the world -- we can't bring them back. What we can do is we can let our voices be heard. And we can vote in our various countries throughout the world for change and equality for everybody. That's what I know we can do."

Watch Wonder's remarks below, and tell us what you think in the comments:

He's awfully full of himself. To be honest, I didn't even know Stevie Wonder was still performing. The last time he had a hit on the radio, Margaret Thatcher was sending ships to the Falkland Islands. Speaking of the Falklands, I'm thinking that might be an appropriate location for the next Stevie Wonder concert.

“If they would extend this to Hip-Hop and Rap groups you’d see all 50 states with Stand Your Ground laws.”

I’d start the petition today!

I bet Stevie Wonder can’t even find Florida on a map.

Now that's funny, right there. I don't care who you are.

That means he will have to boycott Motown too.

With any luck his fans(?) will also leave Mi.

Another dumbarse celerity showing what a dumbarse celebrity he is. Even w/o SYG the right to defend oneself would remain and should the encounter happen post repeal of SYG a person would still have the right to defend him or her self from a black thug.

PROMISE!!! I live in Florida and this is good news for me. We need Stevie Wonder like we need a hurricane to hit Florida.

Good riddance!

“Well, Stevie Wonder is a very talented guy, but he’s 63 and if you’re a fan you’ve probably already seen him, so the only loss is to his own wallet.”

Poke your eyes out? Makes ya ‘Wonder’.

More importantly, has Vanilla Ice weighed in on this yet?

I think another Freeper suggested Stevie stop selling his records/cds in these states and discontinue airplay of his songs.

Put up or shut up time.

That’s a stitch! Guffaws aplenty!
Thanks. I wish I’d thought of it.
And now that you’ve led off discussion with that sage observation; I beg to advance the possibility that even in Florida most people will survive this, and possibly come out the better for it.
