An off duty police officer has shot his neighbour's dog dead in front of it's 12-year-old owner, after it allegedly attacked him and his wife.
The Fitzhenry family, from Harris County, Texas, say their beloved boxer dog, Gunner - who they described as a big softie - was shot by the off-duty Houston police officer on Friday along a pathway.
Houston Police Department Officer Mark Condon claims the four-year-old dog charged at him and his wife, after it escaped from the Fitzhenry's garden by accident.
But according to 12-year-old Dalton Fitzhenry, who family say treated the dog like a brother, the pet had only wanted to play.
The Fitzhenry family, from Harris County, say their beloved boxer dog, Gunner, was shot by an off-duty Houston police officer on Friday along a pathway
They say the four-year-old dog escaped from their garden by accident after their children opened the gate and went to pick up a ball they had been playing with
Mr Condon, said: 'The dog charged us and attacked me, my wife and one of our dogs.'
He fired at the dog, striking it in the neck, Khoun.com reports.
He claim details of the injuries he, his wife, and dog suffered, have been recorded by police.
The Fitzhenrys said Gunner was one of the family and losing the animal was like 'losing an older brother' for their children. They now plan to lodge a formal complaint with HPD.
Dalton, 12, said the officer had shot the dog at point blank range. The animal died on the way to a vet.
He added: 'He just pulled it out, like, point-blank range and shot.
'Gunner didnt have the chance to run.'
Daltons parents said the boy was screaming and crying as he watched the ordeal.

Maybe. Aggressively hoping to get a treat.
I have a Blue Healer...and despite that she is trained and a pretty good dog.
I still worry a bit about her a bit. I know if somehow was aggressive towards me she would be in their face...but I'm concerned a little that she might misinterpret something. Especially when someone might be walking another dog.
I think that goes with the territory...
Agreed. Such a policy would go far toward cooling off the hotheads.
Your difficulties comprehending what I’ve written (or are you distorting what I’ve written on purpose), what is written in the newspapers, and the biased information and interpretations that you seem to actually propose as “facts” or “evidence”lead me to conclude that posting to you is pointless.
Officer Mark Condon flat out said the dog did attack, and that the attack caused injuries. He also said these injuries were documented:

"all three of us sustained injuries from the attack, which were documented by the Precinct 4 Constables' Office."

It's been a week. Why is he not releasing the evidence?
Officer Condon’s complete statement can be read here => http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=9166175
Oh, I comprehended perfectly.
Why would you expect a child, who just witnessed his dog unlawfully shot at close range, to take “It’s okay, I’m a cop” to mean “You’re safe, I’m a cop.”
Do you typically feel safe when your pet, your child, your spouse or your loved one is shot before your eyes?
Would you take a declaration of the shooter’s occupation as comforting or reassuring?
When you have objective evidence of any “injuries”, do ping me.
Still spinning and distorting my prior posts? This is why it’s pointless to post to you. Now if the cop hadn’t said he was a cop the kid would have more reason to wonder if an armed gunman was in the neighborhood, going house to house. And if that cop HADN’T identified himself -you would have been certain he was hiding something.
Why would I have photographs? I don’t have any more direct evidence than you do. Neither of us has sufficient evidence either way but strangely, I’m the only one that knows that.
PLEASE continue raving that you know what happened and that our mutual inability to post photographs on this thread MUST mean that your irrational declarations are correct because after all - the most impartial court is to be found in the news media.
Dragnet2? Is that YOU? How’s that “problem” working out?
Still evading the questions?
See the tagline Jeffry..
So much anger, spite, ill-will. Depraved mind, much?
Diversion again Jeffry?
See tagline once again.
