My closest brush came in mid-January 2001 when I held a bottle of antidepressants in my hand for — hours?? — until I finally convinced myself not to swallow all of them. It was a very frightening time.

A permanent solution to a temporary problem. At an early point in my life, I realized that no matter how bad things got, I seemed to get through them somehow. It was years later when I realized that God had been with me the whole time. Since that point, those same thoughts that you had at the time no longer plagued me.
