I understand the “tease” as it is often done by news channels.
And I don’t like it.
Announcing that you will announce something very important later is...not a good way to handle things, imo.
If it’s important, why are you waiting?
Drudge got his claim to fame by releasing the story of Monica Lewinsky when Michael Isikoff couldn't get Newsweek to okay going with the story. Drudge scooped Newsweek.
Drudge tried to play the tease game with Jesse Jackson's love child, but someone on Free Republic found the file on Drudge's web server by entering in common acronyms that Drudge was known to use, an suddenly his story that was ready to go but not linked to his main page was found and linked to here.
Fast forward a dozen years, and we're still trying to tease site hits rather than break the news ASAP.
News is no longer a public good, it's a commodity to be sold for profit.
