In post #67, The Cajun had a suggestion (quote):
"Had this happen on a relatives desktop 2 months ago, reseated the memory boards, took care of the problem.
Went on afterward and CAREFULLY cleaned the memory card contacts (2 mem boards), no reports of trouble since.
Original symptom, it would hang on boot up, wouldn't get to Win start up screen, Hd would stop spinning (Win 7 OS)."
Some people recommend gently cleaning the RAM stick contacts with a pencil eraser. (Disclaimer: That isn't to say that *I* recommend it. I merely mention as an option.)
Otherwise... if there's no POST screen, and no error beeps, you may need to find someone locally (friend/relative?) to sit actually down in front of it, and trouble-shoot the system.
Thanks
I’m going to take this thing apart.
I think you are right.
bad contacts that need to be cleaned up.
Yup, I used an ink eraser very lightly.
Like you said, not the optimum thing to do, but the contacts were very tarnished when looked at with X20 jewelers glasses.
Usually a re-seat will suffice most times.
Just taking a wild guess, would say it's probably memory boards or Hd.
