I was really reluctant to buy an HP machine in the first place, but the price was right.

HP/Compac, crap. Nothing but problems, and I’ve owned many of them.

I’ve got an HP DV-7-1245DX.

Lost my touch pad early on, later lost the keyboard, and had to remove the battery constantly to get it to work. I resigned myself to using a USB mouse and keyboard in order to use the POS.

I’d like to restore this machine because it has a lot of stuff I don’t want to lose.

Buy yourself a "X media" 2.5 HDD enclosure and have all that good stuff on a hard drive that you just plug in to access it!

Then you can have that data available no matter what option you choose for a new system, or fix what ya got!

As long as the hard drive isn’t trashed, this will allow you to move your files to another computer for less than $15.
