It’s possible that it may have something to do with the immigration thing, but it also may not. This is what mariachi singers wear. This is what he knows to wear when he performs. Also, there is nothing wrong with him being proud of his Mexican heritage but also proud to be an American. If you want to read more into it, go ahead. I feel it’s a shame that he has been subjected to such racist vitriol. We ought to know better, especially since we are ALL descended from immigrants to this country. I too support border security and do not appreciate illegals being given benefits and rights that our own citizens don’t get. But I seriously doubt this boy and his costume have anything to do with that. I’m proud of him. It was an honour to have him sing our national anthem.
