DC police are strictly prohibited from arresting illegal aliens based on the fact that they are here in the US illegally. They have to have committed a serious crime to even be taken to jail. Then they do their time locally UNLESS they have done something horrible like murder, which in some cases MIGHT get them deported.

The fact that a person is in the US illegally makes zero impact on their status in DC. The police are prohibited from even asking a person about their status. Sure, the cops know who those illegals are, but they are exactly like a protected species.

I know a DC cop - I asked him how it worked there.
