Florida deputies spotted an endangered Key Deer with a bag of Doritos over its head early Sunday.
Deputy Joshua Gordon removed the bag from the deer's head and snapped a photo of it, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.
Two deputies on patrol saw the deer in the Port Pine Heights Subdivision on No Name Road on Big Pine Key just after midnight, said sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin.
"It must have wanted that last chip in the bottom of the bag," Herrin was quoted as saying by the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
Herrin added that the deer was calm as it waited for the deputies to come to it, and once the bag was taken off its head, it left.
The Key Deer can only be found in the Florida Keys and southern Florida, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. A study conducted in 2000 found the population to be between 700 to 800, with most of them living on Big Pine Key.
We need to license Doritos and then this wouldn’t happen.
Calling Bloomberg. Ban either Doritos or deer.
This was a perfectly ruined chance to bag some venison for dinner.
How often does a hunter get the chance to bag a deer with a buck knife?
I wonder what idiot who threw their garbage in a place a deer could get to it....
Possibly nobody. It wouldn’t be the first time an animal went into somebody’s yard and snatched food.
A few years ago, just after dusk, I saw a dog running down the street with a 1 gallon plastic mayonnaise jar on it’s head. I gave chase and the dog ran into the side of a building. I got close enough to realize the dog was actually a coyote. The dog ran off and the cops rolled up. I told him which way it went and went about my business. I doubt they ever found it because I didn’t hear any gunfire.
Mmmmmmm. “Poached” deer. And it appears to me that it was a Doritos bag on it’s head. Not a bag of Doritos. Miami herald. Headline says it right. Reporter gets it wrong. DOH! I can see a whole bunch of Doritos bags out in the woods now too. To hell with the salt licks.
Ooops. nbc not miami herald. DOH!
We spotted a strange animal on the side of the road and went back to get a better look. It was a cat with a glass jar stuck on it’s head. Apparently the cat had stuck it’s head into the jar to lick out whatever the jar held, and couldn’t get his head out.
We had to break the jar to rescue the cat.
We have a deer in our area that has had the top of a trash can on its head for several years. She had twins last year. I saw her on Friday. Guess someone had corn in a trash can for feeding and she decided to stick her head into the hole, but took the lid with her.
