Museum officials are involved. I bet he gets nothing. Someone will come along and say his finds are of historical or archaeological and belong in a museum. This is the aggrevating part of metal detecting, trying to gain permission in some areas and then keeping what you find.

When this happens in the UK, they have to give the finder and/or the land owner the full market value of the find. From what I've read, the finder and land owner normally split the money 50/50.
