Does the dirt on Mars contain the nutrients necessary for plant life to grow there? If not, can fertilizer be made from anything on Mars?

It has the elements. Plants don't generally take up elements directly. Usually, beneficial micro-organisms deal with the rotting wood, limestone, granite, whatever before the plants can eat.

So little bugs should be the first things seeded. Unless we prove that Mars already has an infection.
